101. Surah Al-Qari'ah

The Calamity

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

101:1
ٱلْقَارِعَةُ١

The Striking Calamity -

— Saheeh International

101:2
مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ٢

What is the Striking Calamity?

— Saheeh International

101:3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ٣

And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

— Saheeh International

101:4
يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ٤

It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,1

— Saheeh International

101:5
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ٥

And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.1

— Saheeh International

101:6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ٦

Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

— Saheeh International

101:7
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ٧

He will be in a pleasant life.

— Saheeh International

101:8
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ٨

But as for one whose scales are light,

— Saheeh International

101:9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ٩

His refuge1 will be an abyss.2

— Saheeh International

101:10
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ١٠

And what can make you know what that is?

— Saheeh International

101:11
نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ١١

It is a Fire, intensely hot.

— Saheeh International
